Obituary for Ethel Rose Kristan

Kristan, Ethel
February 13, 1936 – August 21, 2022

The family announces with great sorrow our Mom’s death on Sunday August 21, 2022 at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Matheson, in her 87th year.

Predeceased by her husband, Frank Kristan (2008); her parents Alexander and Sarah McGlashan (nee Servage); her brothers Hugh, George (“Eddie”), Lloyd, Robert (“Bobby”), Kenny, and Keith; her sisters Mary, Edith, Alice, Rebecca (“Becky”), Irene, Christina (“Tina”), Ann, and Margaret. Mom was also predeceased by her mother-in-law, Franciska Kristan, who lived with our family for many years.

Dear mother of Frank (Merja) Kristan, Josie (Maurice) Tremblay, and Mark Kristan. Beloved Granny of Kristopher (May) Tremblay and Gordon Tremblay. Great grandmother of Kristan, Celina and Maximo.

Mom is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and always impressed upon us to never forget them. She will also be missed by her loving extended family in Matheson.

Mom was raised on a farm near Monteith, Ontario. She moved to Timmins in her late teens to work as a nanny for a local dentist. Mom also worked as a telephone operator there. Mom met Ata (Frank) in Timmins, where they married in 1955 and spent the next 53 years together.

Despite her gradual blindness, Mom was an avid gardener who could not miss one episode of her favourite CBC Radio gardening show with host Ed Lawrence. She was a great lover of classic country music and was a good cook and baker. Above all, Mom was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

The family would like to thank Mom’s niece Sarah Bartley and husband John for their many kindnesses and visitations - she really enjoyed their company. We would also like to thank Mom’s friend and neighbour, Paulette Carrier for her kindness in helping her so much and looking out for her over the years. Thank you to the nieces that kept up frequent phone conversations with Mom for many years. These kindnesses will never be forgotten.

Many thanks also to Dr. Boettcher, Alanna Mack, Angie Gendron, nursing staff, as well as auxiliary staff at Bingham Memorial Hospital for their loving and attentive care.

As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. Cremation will take place. Interment and a Celebration of Life will take place some time in the future. If you wish to make a remembrance donation, please donate to the charity of your choice.
