Obituary for Grant Youmans

It is with great sadness that the family of Grant Collins Youmans announces his passing, peacefully with family by his side, on July 9th, 2022, in his 90th year, at Extendicare Timmins.

Grant will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years Diann (nee Miller) and his son Allan (Liisa) and their daughters Lauren and Maija. He is also survived by his sister Gladys Roy (late Jerry) and brother-in-law Don (late Viola). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Marie (nee Collins) and his siblings Olive (late Tony & late Lorne), Jim (late Florence), Arvella Anderson (late Bob), Audrey Watt (late Lawrence), Lois Dolan (late Frank) as well as sisters-in-law Odney (Sis), Gionet (late Guy), Donna Tremblay (late Jean Guy) and brother-in-law Robert Miller.

Grant was born December 29, 1932, in North Bay, Ontario and went on to live most of his life in Timmins, Ontario. He had a natural aptitude for operating construction, forestry and mining equipment and enjoyed working for Fogg Timber, Texasgulf and retired in 1989 as a hoistman at Dome Mines #8 shaft.

In retirement he enjoyed golfing at the Hollinger Golf Club, shooting at the Timmins Golden Nuggets Conservation Club and visiting his many friends at the Seagull Beach Club in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

The family wishes to both thank and acknowledge the staff of the Extendicare Big Water Unit and Dr. Sonia DiTullio, as well as his family doctor of many years, Dr. Judy Gillies, for their care and compassion throughout Grant’s stay.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 at 12:30pm in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11am to 12:30pm at LESSARD-STEPHENS Funeral Home.
