Obituary for Robert St. Denis
C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous soulignons le départ de notre frère bien aimé, Robert, le samedi 11 juin 2022, à Extendicare. Il laisse dans le deuil ses frères et soeurs: Jeannine Perttula (feu Ronald), Cécile Champion (Andre) ,Gérald (Réjeanne), Denise Uren (Todd), Jacqueline Bernard (feu Jean-Marie), Michel (Lynne), Roland (Ingrid), et Daniel (Catherine). Il fut prédécédé par ses parents Henri(1999) et Marguerite ‘Simone’(2001) St-Denis. Oncle chéri de 21 neveux et nièces, grand-oncle et arrière grand-oncle de plusieurs. Neveu adoré de Jules et Denise St-Denis et de Dorothy Gordon, sans oublier tous ceux qui l’ont précédé ainsi que plusieurs cousins/cousines. Robert avait un humour inlassable et était très aimé de tous. Malgré sa Paralysie Cérébrale, Robert a su vivre sa vie au maximum. Il a participé dans nombreux organismes qui lui ont permis de s’épanouir tels que March of Dimes, Arc Industries, Foi et Partage, Special Olympics, Bowling, Hockey Adapté, Scouts Adaptés, l’ACLE, Cursillo, Tai Chi et Lord’s Kitchen. Il faut souligner ses contributions extraordinaires au Centre de collecte de Sang Canadien et aux Chevaliers de Colomb. Depuis plusieurs années, il était reconnu comme un bon vendeur de billets ainsi qu’un membre fidèle aux réunions. Robert avait une foi inébranlable, une sagesse inexplicable et un coeur immense.
N’oublions pas sa famille étendue d’Extendicare qui ont partagé à maintes reprises de beaux souvenirs vécus avec Robert. Ses amis d’Extendicare seront marqué à jamais. Toujours prêt à rendre service, il faisait parti du comité des résidents et se portait bénévole aux nombreux prélèvements de fonds. Robert, surnommé “Trouble”, était imprévisible, toujours à jouer des tours, le bout en train du coin! Il a été très choyé et entouré d’amour pendant son séjour parmi eux. Chacun l’avait dans leur coeur. La pandémie l’a beaucoup affectée, mais par contre, l’utilité d’un iPad lui a porté secours. Un gros merci au personnel d’Extendicare qui l’ont appuyé durant son apprentissage continu de ses outils électroniques. Leur appui inconditionnel lui a permis de maintenir et renouer un rapprochement avec sa famille, ainsi qu’avec ses amis chers.

La famille recevra les condoléances le lundi 27 juin 2022 à la Paroisse St-Dominique à partir de 10h00 suivi de la messe des funérailles à midi. La famille demande de porter un masque dû à la fragilité de santé de plusieurs membres de la famille.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother Robert on Saturday, June 11 2022, at Extendicare. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Jeannine Perttula (feu Ronald), Cécile Champion (Andre) ,Gérald (Réjeanne), Denise Uren (Todd), Jacqueline Bernard (feu Jean-Marie), Michel (Lynne), Roland (Ingrid), and Daniel (Catherine). He was predeceased by his parents Henri(1999) and Marguerite ‘Simone’(2001) St-Denis. Cherished uncle of 21 nieces and nephews. Great uncle and great-great uncle to many. Beloved nephew of Jules and Denise St-Denis and Dorothy Gordon, not to mention all those who preceded him and many cousins. Robert had a great sense of humour and was loved by all. Despite his Cerebral Palsy, Robert lived his life to the fullest. He was involved in many organizations that allowed him to flourish such as March of Dimes, Arc Industries, Foi et Partage, Special Olympics, Bowling, Adaptive Hockey, Adaptive Scouts, ACLE, Cursillo, Tai Chi and Lord’s Kitchen. We must acknowledge his outstanding contributions to the Canadian Blood Centre and the Knights of Columbus. For many years he was known as a good ticket seller and a faithful member at meetings. Robert had an unwavering faith, an inexplicable wisdom and a huge heart.
Let us not forget his Extendicare family who shared many fond memories with Robert. His friends from all departments, from the kitchen to maintenance, including residents and their families will forever be touched by his presence. Always willing to help, he was a member of the Residents' Committee and volunteered at many fundraisers. Robert, nicknamed "Trouble", was unpredictable, always playing tricks, the Extendicare mascot! He was very much loved and cared for during his time with them. Everyone had him in their hearts. The pandemic affected him a lot, but on the other hand, the usefulness of an iPad came to his rescue. A big thank you to the Extendicare staff who supported him as he discovered how to use his new electronic tools. Their unconditional support allowed him to maintain and reconnect with his family, as well as his dear friends.
Your expressions of sympathy can be made through a donation to Fanconi Canada or to St. Dominique Parish.
Visitations will be Monday, June 27, 2022 at St. Dominique Parish starting 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at noon. The family asks that due to the frailty of many family members, a mask be worn.
