Obituary for Ronald Emery Gervais

The Gervais family announces with great sorrow the passing of Ron Gervais (Ronald Emery) at the Timmins and District Hospital, on the morning of September 12th, 2022, at the age of 78, surrounded by loved ones.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife “chou” Frida Gervais of 40 years. He is also survived and terribly missed by 4 adult children, Marc Gervais (Lise) of Timmins, Kelly Trahan (Rob) of Timmins, Stephanie Gervais Parent (Guy) of Timmins, and Melanie Lavigne (Eric) of Timmins, 6 grandchildren, Paul, Brooke, Karen, Jeffrey, Anabelle and Chanelle and 5 great-grandchildren Benjamin, Christopher, Theodore, Katrine and Willow. He was the loving brother of Rena Gunn (Jacques) of Quebec City, Judith Carbonneau (George) of Timmins, Raymond Gervais (Marge), who was also Ron’s best friend, of Timmins and Claude Gervais (Regine) of Timmins. Miraculously, Ron is also survived by his 102 year old mother, Gilberte Gervais. He is predeceased by his father Emery Gervais and infant son Patrick.

He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ron loved his family more than anything. He loved his “gang” and was happiest when everyone came together around his kitchen table for a meal or just a cup of coffee. He spent many years at Mattagami Lake as well as Ivanhoe Lake (Red Pine Lodge) doing what he did best, enjoying life.

He worked many years in the mining industry beginning with Kamiskotia Mine, then Vulcan Machinery followed by 32 years at Kidd Creek Met Site (Central Control) until his retirement in 2002.

He enjoyed his many trips to Europe where he rejoiced with family and good food. Dad loved to sing along to the Golden Oldies and seemed to know the words to every song. He will be truly missed in so many ways.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank our family doctor, Dr. Lesley Griffiths, and the staff on Medical 2 and Hospice at the Timmins and District Hospital, notably, RNs Juliet and Anu. The care and compassion received during dad’s lengthy illness were outstanding and will never be forgotten.

Visitation will take place at Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home on Thursday, September 15th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will take place in the Lessard-Stephens Chapel at 11 am on Friday, September 16, 2022, which will be livestreamed on the funeral home’s Facebook Page. To view the livestrean, CLICK HERE 5 minutes prior to service . A lunch will follow in the Reception Centre.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Ron’s name to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation (Hospice). Online condolences and donations can be made at www.lessardstephens.com
