Obituary for Shirley Edmonds (Dunlop)

With great sorrow, we wish to announce that Shirley passed away suddenly this week, just shy of her 88th birthday.

Shirley was the youngest daughter of P.J. Dunlop and Ethel Ludgate. After Ethel’s death, PJ married Catherine McColgan, giving Shirley the benefit of wonderful relationships with the families of both these women. Shirley married Ronald Edmonds in 1958, and in their 57 year partnership, they raised five children and were active in their church and the community of Timmins. They travelled across Canada and to many destinations in the United States. They were quick to jump in the car when one of their children needed help with renovations or childcare.

Shirley was so very proud and grateful that her family was so close. She loved the many summers that we spent camping at provincial parks, all the time that we spent at Nighthawk and later Mesomikenda, and our many family get-togethers. She was a great sport and always ready to try something new or to travel to new places. She easily welcomed new people to her growing family and was loved and admired by her friends including all of her ‘Bridge buddies’.

Shirley is survived, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Brian (Cristina), Robert (Danica), David (Cathy), Ann and Roslyn (Thomas). Gram will also be missed by her grandchildren, Michael (Kristen), Mark, Thomas, Keegan, Matthew and Emily and her great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Victoria. She will also be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Sister Fay Edmonds. She is now with her beloved husband Ron, her sisters Daphne Schwegel and Margaret McLean, her great friend Joan Reid and many other friends and family.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at St-Anthony’s Cathedral. Interment will follow at Timmins Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 19, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at LESSARD-STEPHENS Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Timmins and District Hospital or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences and donations can be made at www.lessardstephens.com
